Guernsey State Park surrounds the Guernsey Reservoir, an impoundment of the North Platte River, near the town of Guernsey in Platte County, Wyoming. The state park has campgrounds, boat ramps and hiking trails as well as exceptional examples of structures created by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s.
The park has seven campgrounds and three boat ramps. Fish species include walleye, yellow perch and channel catfish. Fish populations are affected by the reservoir's twice-yearly draw-downs.

than meets the eye. It provides
a unique blend of cultural/historic
opportunities as well as all of
the outdoor activities associated with

Camping
Guernsey provides primitive and utility
campsites at 13 campgrounds. All campsites
are designated with parking area, picnic tables,
fire grills. All major campgrounds have comfort
stations and drinking water. In addition to
campsite facilities the park has four reservable
yurts available for an even more unique
outdoor experience. A trailer dump station is
also located at the south entrance to Guernsey
State Park.
CCC Structures
This park provides some of the finest examples
of Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) work
in the Rocky Mountain area. The Guernsey
Museum, the Castle and Brimmer Point are
grand examples of the work done by the
CCC crews and are available to explore. The
museum was constructed so as to overlook the
lake and Laramie Peak. The building itself is
made of hand hewn timbers and hand forged
iron. The Castle, with its giant fireplace and
winding steps, leads to an observation area for
a spectacular view of the park.
Mountain Biking & Hiking
An extensive network of trails was originally
planned and partially built during the
operation of the CCC camps. Ever since that
time hiking and trail use has been a major
feature at Guernsey State Park. Approximately
12 miles of CCC trails have been restored
on the park. Start your trail hiking adventure
at the trail kiosk located at the Brimmer
Point turnoff.
Oregon Trail & Register Cliff
The Oregon Trail was one of the primary
routes used by the immigrants’ westward
migration across the plains from 1841 to 1869.
Today, in many parts of Wyoming, remnants
of The Oregon Trail can still be seen. Some of
the best examples are the “ruts”; located just
1/2 mile south of the town of Guernsey, off
Highway 26.
Register Cliff located two miles southeast
of Guernsey provided travelers with a
“chalkboard” where they placed their names
for those who followed. The landmark still
remains much the way it looked to pioneers
on wagon trains journeying west.
NOTE
Fishing at the park is limited to the spillway
area. An annual silt run drains the reservoir
for a few weeks shortly after July 4th.
LOCATION
Guernsey State Park is located near the
town of Guernsey which is reached by exiting
I- 25 at Exit 92 and traveling east on Hwy 26
for 15 miles.
