The Swinging Bridge
The suspension foot bridge across the Bighorn
River is commonly called “The Swinging
Bridge” and was built in 1916. The structure
was removed and rebuilt in July 1991 and was
replaced in 1992. The bridge offers a unique
vantage point from which to view the Bighorn
River and Mineral Terrace.
Hot Springs State Park is administered by the Division
of State Parks, Historic Sites and Trails; Wyoming
Department of State Parks and Cultural Resources.

Bison Viewing
The Hot Springs State Park Bison Herd is the
central herd for Wyoming State Parks. The
department maintains a free-roaming herd
of 24-27 adult and yearling bison on a yearround basis, here at Hot Springs and Bear
River State Parks. This number increases
by 10-15 animals during the months of
April, May and June as new calves become
a welcome addition. Feeding occurs daily
between 8-9 a.m. and offers park visitors a
unique opportunity to view the “monarch of
the Plains” up close. Please remember that
bison are wild animals and should be viewed
ONLY while you remain in your vehicle
State Bath House
The State Bath House is a free soaking
facility for the public. The hot mineral water
is maintained at 104 degrees Fahrenheit to
provide the safest soaking water possible.
Attendants are available to assist you with
your needs. The Bath House hours are:
Monday - Saturday, 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m.;
Sundays, noon-5:30 p.m. The Bath House
is closed on holidays during the winter
(Thanksgiving and Christmas) and open on
holidays during the summer, 8 to 5:30.
Legend Rock
Legend Rock State
Petroglyph Site has
been developed for
public viewing of
the petroglyphs. The
facilities include a visitor
center, improved access
road, a public restroom
and picnic tables. The site is approximately 30
miles northwest of Thermopolis and visitation
must be arranged through Hot Springs State
Park headquarters or the State Bath House.
For information, call park staff.
Group Picnic Shelters
There are three large group picnic shelters
in the park available by reservation.
Contact Park Headquarters as soon as
you can to reserve a shelter for your event
and also inquire if your group needs a park
liquor permit.
