Hyner View State Park is located in Clinton County, Pennsylvania and is surrounded by Sproul State Forest. The lookout area is bordered by a large stone wall that was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression. The park overlook is at an elevation of 1,940 feet (591 m) above sea level. The West Branch Susquehanna River here is at an elevation of 640 feet (195 m), so the overlook is 1,300 feet (396 m) above the river. The park is the location of a scenic lookout and a contains a launching point for hang gliding. Visitors to Hyner View State Park can see the West Branch Susquehanna River for many miles both up and downstream. Hang gliders can be launched from a ramp just below the lookout wall and glide over the river valley. The park has a small picnic area, a parking area, and restrooms.

A Pennsylvania Recreational Guide for Hyner Run and Hyner View State Parks Hyner Run State Park Hyner Run carves a small valley from the surrounding steep mountains, creating a cozy, quiet place for outdoor adventures. Hyner Run State Park is entirely surrounded by Sproul State Forest, Pennsylvania’s largest state forest. HIKING: The 90-mile Donut Hole Trail System runs through the park. This moderate to rugged trail for backpackers can also be day hiked. The popular 4.1-mile Long Fork Loop begins at a kiosk near the pool. History HUNTING: Although hunting is prohibited within the state park, thousands of acres of adjacent public land provide excellent hunting, trapping, and dog training. From PA 120 at the village of Hyner, turn east onto Hyner Run Road (PA 1014) and travel for two miles. From PA 44, turn west onto Hyner Mountain Road and travel for five miles. Recreational Opportunities CAMPING: flush toilets, showers, electric hook-ups The camping area opens in early April and closes in midDecember, unless otherwise posted. Each of the 30 campsites has a level pad, picnic table, lantern post, and fire ring. Pets are permitted at designated campsites for an additional fee. The campground has warm showers, flush toilets, and several water outlets. Garbage and recycling receptacles and a sanitary dump station are near the campground entrance. Hyner Run State Park CABIN: A modern cabin that sleeps eight people is available for rent year round. The two-story house has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen, dining room, living room, and roofed, open front porch. Renters provide their own sheets, blankets, and towels. Kitchenware and eating utensils are provided. Brook and brown trout are stocked annually and native brook trout inhabit its upper reaches. Numerous other mountain streams within a relatively short distance of the park provide excellent trout fishing, like nearby Right Branch Young Womans Creek. Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission regulations and laws apply. SWIMMING: Admission is free to the large swimming pool and wading pool. The pools are open 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, unless otherwise posted. HANG GLIDING: Licensed and approved hang gliders and paragliders launch from the scenic vista and sail out over the West Branch of the Susquehanna River. PICNICKING: The seven-acre picnic area contains 150 picnic tables with the majority of tables in full to partial shade. A limited number of grills are also available. Two picnic pavilions that hold up to 82 and 96 people may be reserved up to 11 months in advance for a fee. Unreserved picnic pavilions are free on a firstcome, first-served basis. Hyner Run State Park was originally developed by the men of Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) S-75-PA Camp Hyner. Although most traces of the camp are gone, some remain as reminders of that era, like plantation number 10-44-8, which are the red and white pines planted throughout the park. The park opened to the public in 1958 with the completion of the swimming pool, bathhouse, concession, picnic area, and restrooms. The camping area opened in 1975. Hyner View State Park CHILDREN’S PLAY AREA: Play equipment for children is between the swimming pool and the camping area. HUNTING AND FIREARMS: Over 90 acres are open to hunting, trapping, and the training of dogs during established seasons. Common game species are white-tailed deer, black bear, wild turkey, and ruffed grouse. Common furbearers are bobcat, red and gray fox, coyote, and raccoon. Thousands of acres of adjoining state forest are also open to hunting. Hunting woodchucks, also known as groundhogs, is prohibited. Dog training is only permitted from the day following Labor Day through March 31 in designated hunting areas. The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the Pennsylvania Game Commission rules and regulations apply. Contact the park office for ADA accessible hunting information. Use extreme caution with firearms at all times. Other visitors use the park during hunting seasons. Hyner Run State Park This small tent and trailer camping area by the park office is mostly forested. It has modern campsites (electric, nonelectric, and pet-friendly) with a sanitary dump station, firewood concession, and modern restrooms with warm showers. The shower house and one electric campsite are ADA accessible. Donut Hole Trail System runs through the park. The swimming pool, picnic area, pavilions, and children's fishing area are nearby. CAMPING SEASON: This campground opens in mid-April and closes the end of deer season in December. RESERVATIONS: Most campsites in Pennsylvania state parks can be reserved 11 months in advance to noon of the day of arrival. Campers without a reservation arriving after noon should check at the office or near the campground entrance for instructions. Reservations can be made using MasterCard, VISA, American Express, and Discover credit cards; personal, traveler’s, and cashier’s checks; or a Pennsylvania State Parks Gift Card. To receive a confirmed reservation, full payment must be received within ten days of making the reservation. CAMPSITE ISSUING: Advance reservations are available for all campsites. Unreserved sites are available on a firstcome, first-served basis. If an employee is not available, read posted instructions and check the site availability listing. The appropriate fee must be paid to a park employee or deposited in a supplied honor system envelope before setting up on a campsite. CHANGES AND CANCELLATIONS: Cancellations, changes, or transfers to reservations will be assessed a fee and can be made prior to arrival by the Pennsylvania State Parks Reservation Center. Any cancellation, change, or transfer made upon arrival must be processed through the state park. Campground Rules CHECK-IN/CHECK-OUT TIME: Check-in time is 3:00 PM. Campsites must be vacated by 3:00 PM. ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES: Alcoholic beverages are prohibited in all Pennsylvania state parks. PETS: Pets are permitted at designated campsites in this campground. Please contact the park office or contact station for pet guidelines. Pets are prohibited in swimming areas, buildings, and all overnight facilities not participating in the pet program. Guide dogs and service dogs are not considered pets. QUIET HOURS: Campers must not disturb the sleep of others between 9:00 PM and 8:00 AM. NOISE: Operation of electric generators that create excessive noise is prohibited. OCCUPANCY: Site occupancy is limited to one family unit (persons living under one household) or five unrelated people per site. Occupants must include at least one person 18 years of age or older at all times. MOTOR VEHICLES: Park only in designated areas. Only one vehicle is permitted at a campsite in addition to a camping unit. If permitted, additional vehicles can park on the camping spur for a fee or in the second car parking area at no charge. VISITORS: Visitors are welcome on campsites from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM. MINIMUM/MAXIMUM CAMPING PERIOD: Campers may stay in a state park campground up to 14 consecutive nights from Memorial Day to Labor Day. If reserving a Saturday during the summer season, a two-night minimum stay is required. Campers may camp up to 21 consecutive nights during the remainder of the year. HUNTING: Use extreme caution with firearms at all times. Other visitors use the park during hunting seasons. Firearms and archery equipment used for hunting may be uncased and ready for use only in authorized hunting areas during hunting seasons. In areas not open to hunting or during non-hunting seasons, firearms and archery equipment shall be kept in the owner's vehicle or enclosed trailer. Exceptions include: law enforcement officers and individuals with a valid Pennsylvania License to Carry Firearms are authorized to carry a firearm concealed on their person while they are within a state park.
