Located in scenic Tioga County, the 407-acre Hills Creek
State Park abounds with wildlife. Osprey, loons, and
waterfowl visit the lake that boasts a variety of warmwater
fish species. Camping, cabins, swimming, and picnicking
make this an ideal spot for a family vacation.

Hills Creek State Park, in northcentral Tioga County, is
just north of US 6 and midway between Wellsboro and
Mansfield. The park is also reached from PA 287 between the
towns of Tioga and Wellsboro.

Recreational Opportunities
CAMPING: modern shower houses
The 82-site modern campground is at the north end of
the park and can be reached by the main park road. The
campsites range from grassy open areas to sites dominated
by immense hemlock trees. The campground opens the
second Friday in April and closes at the end of October.
Modern shower houses, restrooms, and water fountains are
in central locations throughout the camping area. A sanitary
dump station is just outside the camping area. Pet-friendly
and ADA accessible sites are available.
CAMPING COTTAGES: Three cottages sleep five
people in single bunks and double/single bunks and have a
dining table and chairs, porch/deck, picnic table, fire ring,
electric heat, lights, and outlets. Camping cottages do not
have running water. Potable water and a modern shower
house are nearby. Cottage 34 is ADA accessible.
YURTS: These round, canvas and wood walled tents have
a wooden deck and sleep five people in single bunks and
double/single bunks. Yurts have a stovetop, refrigerator,
dining table and chairs, porch/deck, picnic table, fire ring,
electric heat, lights, and outlets. Potable water and a modern
shower house are nearby. Weekly reservations are required
during the summer.

CABINS: Ten modern cabins can be rented year round.
Cabins are furnished and have a living area, kitchen/dining
area, shower, and two bedrooms. Dog-friendly cabins
and ADA accessible cabins are available. Cabin renters
should bring their own linens and kitchen utensils. Weekly
reservations are required during the summer.

PICNICKING: There are two picnic areas and three
reservable picnic pavilions. Picnic Area 1 is at the south end
of the lake near the dam. Picnic Area 2 is just north east of
the swimming area along a large cove of the lake.
The picnic areas have picnic tables, charcoal grills, picnic
pavilion, centrally located drinking fountains, and modern
restrooms. Picnic Area 2 is open year round, however,
modern facilities are closed seasonally. Picnic pavilions may
be reserved up to 11 months in advance for a fee. Unreserved
picnic pavilions are free on a first-come, first-served basis.
ORGANIZED GROUP TENTING: Qualified adult and
youth groups may use this 40-person-capacity area equipped
with picnic tables, pavilion, fire rings, water, and flush toilets.
Campers may shower in the campground. This wooded
peninsula is open from the second Friday in April to the
middle of October, weather permitting. Advance reservations
are recommended. Some of the larger hemlock, beech, and
maple trees in the park are found on this very
picturesque peninsula.
BOATING: electric motors only
The 137-acre Hills Creek Lake has three boat mooring areas
with a total capacity of 30 boats. Beaverhut and Pines areas
have concrete boat launching ramps. Boat rentals from the
concession are available from Memorial Day to Labor Day,
weather permitting.
Life jackets must be worn in accordance with Pennsylvania
Fish and Boat Commission regulations and laws.
Motorboats must display a boat registration from any state.
Non-powered boats must display one of the following: boat
registration from any state; launch permit or mooring permit
from Pennsylvania State Parks, available at most state park
offices; launch use permit from the Pennsylvania Fish and
Boat Commission.
FISHING: The 137-acre Hills Creek Lake provides
excellent fishing for warmwater species. Common fish are
largemouth bass, carps, bullhead catfish, bluegills, crappies,
and yellow perch. The lake record for largemouth bass is just
over eight pounds. A valid Pa. fishing license is required.
Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission regulations and laws
apply.
ICE FISHING: Ice fishing success in Hills Creek Lake is
exceptional for yellow perch, bluegill, and an occasional
walleye. Ice thickness is not monitored. For your safety,
make sure ice is at least 4” thick for a sing

This campground has modern campsites (electric, non-electric,
full-hookup, and pet-friendly), organized group tenting,
camping cottages, and yurts. The campground has a nature
center, amphitheater, pavilions, boat mooring, coin-operated
laundry, and restrooms with warm showers. A sanitary dump
station is just outside of the camping area. ADA accessible
campsites and lodging are available.

beds and double/single bunk beds. They have a dining table
and chairs, porch, and electric heat, lights, and outlets. Yurts
also have a stovetop and refrigerator.
CAMPING SEASON: This campground opens in April and
closes in early November.
RESERVING A SITE: Most campsites in Pennsylvania state
parks can be reserved 11 months in advance to noon of the day
of arrival. Campers without a reservation arriving after noon
should check at the contact station or near the campground
entrance for instructions.
Reservations can be made using MasterCard, VISA,
American Express, and Discover credit cards, or personal,
traveler’s, and cashier’s checks, or a Pennsylvania State Parks
Gift Card. To receive a confirmed reservation, full payment
must be received within ten days of making the reservation.

CAMPSITE ISSUING: Advance reservations are available
for almost all campsites. Unreserved sites are available on a
first-come, first-served basis. If an employee is not available,
read posted instructions, check the site availability listing, and
then proceed to an available site.
The appropriate fee must be paid to a park employee or
deposited in a supplied honor system envelope before setting
up on a campsite.
CHANGES AND CANCELLATIONS: Cancellations,
changes, or transfers to reservations will be assessed a fee and
can be made prior to arrival by calling the Pennsylvania State
Parks Reservation Center at 888-PA-PARKS
(888-727-2757) Monday through Saturday, 7:00 AM to

Campground Rules
Protect and Preserve Our Parks
CHECK-IN/CHECK-OUT TIME: Check-in time is
3:00 PM. Campsites must be vacated by 3:00 PM. Camping
cottages and yurts must be vacated by 10:00 AM.
Please make your visit safe and enjoyable. Obey all posted
rules and regulations and respect fellow visitors and the
resources of the park.
ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES: Alcoholic beverages are
prohibited in all Pennsylvania state parks.
• Be prepared and bring the proper equipment. Natural areas
may possess hazards. Your personal safety and that of your
family are your responsibility.
PETS: Pets are permitted at designated campsites in this
campground. Please contact the park office or contact station
for guidelines for pets.
Pets are prohibited in swimming areas and all overnight
facilities not participating in the pet program. Guide dogs and
service dogs are not considered pets.
QUIET HOURS: Campers must not disturb the sleep of
others between 9:00 PM and 8:00 AM.
NOISE: Operation of electric generators that create excessive
noise is prohibited.
MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PEOPLE PER SITE: Site
occupancy is limited to one family unit (persons living under
one household) or one non-family unit limited to five persons
per site.
MOTOR VEHICLES: Only one car per campsite is allowed
unless otherwise posted. Park only in designated areas.
VISITORS: Visitors are welcome on campsites from
8:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
MAXIMUM CAMPING PERIOD: Campers may stay
in a state park campground for up to 14 consecutive nights
from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Campers may camp for 21
consecutive nights during the remainder of the year.
HUNTING: Use extreme caution with firearms at all times.
Other visitors use the park during hunting seasons. Firearms
and archery equipment used for hunting may be uncased
and ready for use only in authorized hunting areas during
hunting seasons. In areas not open to hunting or during
non-hunting seasons, firearms and archery equipment shall be
kept in the owner's vehicle or enclosed trailer. Exceptions
include: law enforcement officers and individuals with a valid
Pennsylvania License to Carry Firearms are authorized to
carry a firearm concealed on their person while they are within
a state park.

The cabin area has ten modern cabins available for rent year round.
They sleep six guests in a double bed and single bunk beds.
Modern cabins have two bedrooms, one with two sets of single
bunk beds and one with a double bed. There is also a living area
(couch, chair, end tables, and lamps), kitchen (table, chairs, sink,
refrigerator, stove/oven, microwave, and coffee maker), bathroom
(shower, toilet, and sink), fire ring, and picnic table.
In the campground, there are camping cottages and yurts that are
available for rent from mid-April to late October. They sleep five
people in single bunk beds and double/single bunk beds. These
facilities have a dining table and chairs, porch/deck, picnic table,
fire ring, electric heat, lights, and outlets. Yurts also have a
stovetop and refrigerator. Camping cottages and yurts do not have
running water. In the campground, there are restrooms with warm
showers and water spigots.
Guests should bring sheets, blankets or sleeping bags, pillows,
etc.; all cooking, serving, and eating utensils; coffee pot; toaster;
toiletries; containers to carry water; and dishpans. Do not bring
tents, camping trailers, or RVs.

a two-night minimum and a 14-night maximum stay in the offseason and weekly rentals in the summer season (Friday to Friday).
The summer season rental period is the second Friday in June to
the day before the third Friday in August.
Camping cottages have a two-night minimum stay year round.
They have a 14-night maximum stay in the summer season and
a 21-night maximum stay in the off-season.
RESERVATIONS: Lodging in Pennsylvania state parks can be
reserved 11 months to three days before the day of arrival. If it is
two days or less before the arrival date, call the state park to
inquire about availability.
