The central 340-acre (140 ha) Pinchot Lake is an important recreation site featuring a designated swim area on an artificial beach, boat launch with rentals and tours, and prime bass fishing. Surrounding the lake are campsites that accommodate tents and trailers, as well as yurts and cabins. Two 18-hole disc golf courses and volleyball courts are nearby the picnic areas for day use. There are several trails that pass through the park, including the Mason-Dixon Trail.

The 2,338-acre Gifford Pinchot State
Park is in northern York County along
PA 177 between the towns of Rossville
and Lewisberry. The park consists of
reverted farm fields and wooded hillsides
surrounding the 340-acre Pinchot Lake,
which serves as the prime attraction.

The park is near the metropolitan areas of
York and Harrisburg.
From Harrisburg, take the Lewisberry
Exit (35) of I-83 south, then PA 177 south;
or by US 15 south to Dillsburg, then to
PA 74 south.
From York, take the Newberrytown Exit
(32) of I-83 north, then PA 382 west to PA
177 south. Or take PA 74 north.
Reservations
CABINS: Ten modern cabins can be
rented year round. Cabins are furnished
and have a living area, kitchen/dining
area, toilet/shower room, and two or three
bedrooms. Renters provide their own bed
linens, bathroom articles, kitchenware,
eating utensils, coffee maker, and toaster.
One cabin is ADA accessible. Cabin
occupants may moor their boats during their
stay at nearby Boat Mooring #2.
Spend the Day
BOATING: electric motors only
The 340-acre Pinchot Lake has three
launch areas available 24 hours a day for
fishing and boating activities. There are 286
shoreline mooring and canoe rack spaces
that may be rented from April 1 to October
31. Mooring areas include a number of
larger spaces designed to accommodate
day-sailers and catamarans, while rack
spaces accommodate canoes, kayaks, and
small sailboats. There are several types of
boats and electric trolling motors for rent
at the boat rental from late spring through
early autumn.
Motorboats must display a boat
registration from any state. Non-powered
boats must display one of the following:

permit from the Pennsylvania Fish and
Boat Commission.
HUNTING AND FIREARMS: About
1,780 acres are open to hunting, trapping,
and the training of dogs. Common game
species are deer, rabbits, squirrels,
and waterfowl.
Special regulations apply to all hunting
in the park. Until November 1, only archery
equipment may be used. From November 1
to the end of flintlock deer season, shotguns
and muzzleloading long guns may be used.
Hunting with centerfire rifles and handguns
is prohibited. Hunters should be especially
alert for other park visitors who may not
be familiar with hunting and also for safety
zones near park buildings and private
residences in and around the park. Hunters
should observe and obey all signs posting
areas open to hunting, closed to hunting,
and designated safety zones. Detailed
information about hunting and trapping in
the park is available at the park office.
Hunting woodchucks, also known as
groundhogs, is prohibited. Dog training
is only permitted from the day following
Labor Day through March 31 in designated
hunting areas. The Department of
Conservation and Natural Resources and
the Pennsylvania Game Commission rules
and regulations apply. Contact the park
office for ADA accessible
hunting information.
Use extreme caution with firearms at
all times. Other visitors use the park during
hunting seasons. Firearms and archery
equipment used for hunting may be uncased
and ready for use only in authorized hunting
areas during hunting seasons. In areas not
open to hunting or during non-hunting
seasons, firearms and archery equipment
shall be kept in the owner’s vehicle or
enclosed trailer. Exceptions include: law
enforcement officers and individuals with
a valid Pennsylvania License to Carry
Firearms are authorized to carry a firearm
concealed on their person while they are
within a state park.
SWIMMING: A large, ADA accessible
beach in the Quaker Race Day Use Area
is open from late May to mid-September,
8:00 AM to sunset. Swim at your own risk.

Campground Rules
The large tent and trailer camping area at the western end of
the lake has modern campsites (electric, non-electric, fullhookup, and pet-friendly) with paved parking pads. ADA
campsites are available for people with disabilities. Some
campsites near the lake have direct access to the water.
The campground has play areas, boat launch, mooring areas,
sanitary dump station, restrooms, shower, amphitheater,
swimming beach, organized group tenting, camping cottages,
and yurts.
Waterfront yurts and camping cottages sleep five guests in a
single room with a single bunk bed and a double/single bunk
bed. Each unit features a dining table, heat, and electric, as
well as an outdoor fire ring and picnic table. Additionally,
Yurts have a stovetop, refrigerator, and microwave. Camping
cottages and yurts do not have running water, but have access
to potable water, restrooms, and a shower house nearby.
Willow Camping Cottage permits up to two dogs.
CAMPING SEASON: The campground opens mid-April and
closes late October.
RESERVATIONS: Most campsites in Pennsylvania state
parks can be reserved 11 months in advance to noon of the day
of arrival. Campers without a reservation arriving after noon
should check at the contact station or near the campground
entrance for instructions.
Reservations can be made using MasterCard, VISA,
American Express, and Discover credit cards; personal,
traveler's, and cashier's checks; or a Pennsylvania State Parks
Gift Card. To receive a confirmed reservation, full payment
must be received within ten days of making the reservation.

NOISE: Operation of loudspeakers, music, and electric
generators that create excessive noise are prohibited.
CAMPSITE ISSUING: Advance reservations are available
for almost all campsites. Unreserved sites are available on a
first-come, first-served basis. If an employee is not available,
read posted instructions and check the site availability listing.
The appropriate fee must be paid to a park employee or
deposited in a supplied honor system envelope before setting
up on a campsite.
CHANGES AND CANCELLATIONS: Cancellations,
changes, or transfers to reservations will be assessed a fee and
can be made prior to arrival by the Pennsylvania State Parks
Reservation Center.
Any cancellation, change, or transfer made upon arrival
must be processed through the state park. For complete
information on fees, cancellations, changes, transfers, and
discount policies, view the Reservation Cancellation/Change

CHECK-IN/CHECK-OUT TIME: Check-in time is
3:00 PM. Campsites must be vacated by 3:00 PM. Camping
cottages and yurts must be vacated by 10:00 AM.
ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES: Alcoholic beverages are
prohibited in all Pennsylvania state parks.
PETS: Pets are permitted at designated campsites in this
campground. Please contact the park office or contact station
for guidelines for pets.
Pets are prohibited in swimming areas, buildings, and all
overnight facilities not participating in the pet program. Guide
dogs and service dogs are not considered pets.
QUIET HOURS: Campers must not disturb the sleep of
others between 9:00 PM and 8:00 AM.
OCCUPANCY: Site occupancy is limited to one family unit
(persons living under one household) or five unrelated people
per site. Occupants must include at least one person 18 years
of age or older at all times.
MOTOR VEHICLES: Park only in designated areas. Only
one vehicle is permitted at a campsite in addition to a camping
unit. If permitted, additional vehicles can park on the camping
spur for a fee or in the second car parking area at no charge.
VISITORS: Visitors are welcome on campsites from
8:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
MINIMUM/MAXIMUM CAMPING PERIOD: Campers
may stay in a state park campground up to 14 consecutive
nights from Memorial Day to Labor Day. If reserving a
Saturday during the summer season, a two-night minimum
stay is required. Campers may camp up to 21 consecutive
nights during the remainder of the year.

six in two bedrooms, or sleep eight in three bedrooms. The master
bedroom has a double bed and additional bedrooms have single
bunk beds. Each cabin features a living room (couch, chair, end
tables, and lamps), a kitchen (dining table, sink, refrigerator, stove/
oven, and microwave), a bathroom (shower, toilet, and sink), as
well as an outdoor fire ring and picnic table.
Waterfront yurts and camping cottages are available for rent in
the campground, from mid-April to late October. Each unit sleeps
five guests in a single room with a single bunk bed and a double/
single bunk bed. Each unit features a dining table, heat, and electric,

When renting any overnight facility, guests should bring sheets,

season. In the summer peak season, only weekly rentals (Friday to

14-night maximum stay in the summer peak season and
a 21-night maximum stay in the non-peak season.

PETS: Willow Camping Cottage is the only lodging at the park
that permits dogs. Only two dogs are permitted at the cottage at
any time. Outside the cottage, all pet rules and guidelines apply.

Guide dogs and service dogs are not considered pets. Pets are
prohibited in swimming areas, buildings, non-pet areas, and all
overnight facilities not participating in the pet program.
