Park hours change with the seasons and are posted in
the park and on our Web site.
Welcome to Roxborough –
Where Plains and Mountains Meet
Roxborough State Park is a Colorado Natural
Area and a National Natural Landmark. The park
was established to protect the area’s unparalleled
scenery and resource values while providing
opportunities for hiking and learning about
Colorado’s natural heritage. Roxborough’s
spectacular geologic setting supports a unique
mixture of prairie and mountain species. It is a
place of beauty, ecological diversity, and serenity.
Roxborough is open year round. Contact the park for
the latest trail conditions. Snow shoeing and crosscountry skiing are permitted on park trails.
Roxborough State Park is a special place and has
regulations designed to preserve its significant
natural values and offer visitors a unique and safe
experience.
Stewardship Opportunities
Volunteers assist in leading programs, trail
maintenance, and natural resource projects.

All visitors are required to display a valid Colorado
State Parks Pass on their vehicle windshield. Revenue
from park pass sales is critical to the operation of the
park. Passes are available at the park entrance station,
the Visitor Center, or at the self-service station.

• Visitors must remain on designated trails.
• Trails are closed to pets, horses and bicycles.
• Rock climbing is prohibited.
• The park is open to day use only.

Roxborough State Park
Designed to minimize impact on natural resources,
Roxborough State Park’s facilities are limited to the
visitor center and the trail system. The park does
not provide picnic facilities. Water and restroom
facilities are available at the visitor center.
Colorado State Parks offer recreational
opportunities as diverse as Colorado’s landscape.
Park staff can help you find the perfect Colorado
State Park for the way you want to enjoy the
outdoors.

Roxborough offers hikes ranging from the
gentle Willow Creek Trail to the moderately
strenuous Carpenter Peak
Trail, which gains 1,000
feet in elevation. Our
trails connect to the
Douglas County Open
Space trail system,
the Colorado Trail,
Waterton Canyon
and Indian Creek
for increased hiking
opportunities.
Roxborough is managed to protect your
natural experience. Weekdays, evenings, and
early mornings offer incredible opportunities
for solitude and wildlife watching. You’ll forget
you’re in the Denver metro area.

Roxborough is an island for wildlife in an area
that is rapidly developing and is home to many
wildlife species including black bear, mountain
lion, bobcat, mule deer, and golden eagle.
Please respect the animals’ need for space
while you enjoy watching them. Park staff
can provide you with information on viewing
wildlife safely and ethically.
