Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is the largest state park in California. Five hundred miles of dirt roads, twelve
wilderness areas and miles of hiking trails provide visitors with an unparalleled opportunity to experience the
wonders of the California desert. The park is named after Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza and the Spanish
name “borrego,” meaning bighorn sheep.
CAMPING is available October 1 – May 31 and
the campground is reservable from October 1
– April 30. Reservations are not site-specific at
this campground. Drinkable water is available for
purchase. Restrooms and hot, token-operated
showers are available. Each campsite or cabin site
may have up to eight persons (including children).
Pitch tents only in designated campsites. Cabin
fees must be paid in order to occupy a cabin site.
CHECK-OUT TIME is noon. Please vacate your
site by that time. Check-in time is 2 p.m.
PARK FEES are due and payable upon entry
into the park. Use the self-registration system if
the entrance station is closed. The campsite fee
covers one vehicle. Additional fees apply for
extra vehicles.
PARKING: Vehicles may be parked only in your
assigned campsite. They must be parked with all
four tires on the pavement and must not extend
into the roadway beyond the campsite. Extra
vehicles that do not fit in the site must be parked
in the designated overflow area.
SPEED LIMIT is 15 mph in all campgrounds and
day-use areas. Please drive carefully, observe the
speed limit, and watch for pedestrians.
BICYCLES must remain on paved or dirt roads.
Children under 18 years old are required by
law to wear a helmet when riding a bicycle,
skateboard, scooter or other wheeled vehicle.
QUIET HOURS are from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., and
generators may only be operated between 10 a.m.
and 8 p.m. To ensure an enjoyable experience for
everyone, please do not disturb other campers,
regardless of the time of day or night. Radios and
other sound-producing devices may not be audible
beyond your immediate campsite.
FIRES AND FIREWOOD: Please be cautious when
building fires. Fires are allowed only in established
fire rings or camp stoves. Do not build ground fires
outside the fire rings or leave campfires unattended.
Do not gather firewood in the park––the nutrients
must be allowed to recycle back into the ecosystem.
You may purchase firewood from park personnel.
DESERT SAFETY Carry plenty of water and wear
appropriate clothing and footwear. Know your
limitations in hot weather. Always notify someone of
your plans, including when you plan to return.
