Fort Verde State Historic Park (7.5 miles) Experience living history and life through the eyes of a frontier soldier. The fort was a base for General Crook’s U.S. Army scouts and soldiers in the 1870s and 1880s. From 1865 – 1891, Camp Lincoln, Camp Verde, and Fort Verde were home to officers, doctors, families, enlisted men, and scouts. (928) 567-3275 Dead Horse Ranch State Park (23 miles) Nestled in the cool climate of Cottonwood, this park offers numerous recreational opportunities such as camping, hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, fishing, horseback riding, and more. Cabins are also available. (928) 634-5283 Verde River Greenway State Natural Area (23 miles) This 600-acre stretch of the Verde River extends from Tuzigoot Bridge to Beasley Flat below Camp Verde. The conservation area provides excellent fishing, hiking, swimming, bird watching, and kayaking opportunities. (928) 639-0312 ROCKIN’ RIVER RANCH 01/24 Nestled along the lush riparian waters of the Verde River, Rockin’ River Ranch State Park is located in Camp Verde in central Arizona, 90 miles north of Phoenix. Several trails lead from the park along the Verde River, adjacent to Nature Conservancy lands, and offer stunning views, bird-watching and fishing access. Take a stroll along the Pasture Loop Trail or hike the White Cliffs Trail along the river banks. Depending on the year’s rainfall, the river’s height and flow changes throughout the year, so visit often to experience different flora and fauna! Established 1957 The park offers day-use activities including hiking, mountain biking, picnicking and access to fishing and wildlife viewing. Rockin’ River Ranch State Park 4513 S. Salt Mine Rd., Camp Verde, AZ 86322 Hiking Trails Park Rules Buckaroo Trail: A .4-mile trail that allows visitors to cross between trails in the southern edge of the park. Miano Trail: This relatively flat .3-mile trail treats visitors to nearby mountain views and bird watching, with benches to rest and take it all in. Outlaw Trail: This .3-mile trail connects to scenic picnic areas. Pasture Loop Trail: This 1.2-mile trail is rated relatively flat, with a 5% slope. Trail includes picnic tables and trash receptacles that are located along the river. Shady Acres Trail: This short trail allows access along the Verde River and with access for fishing or bird watching. White Cliffs Trail: At 1.7-miles, the longest trail in the park takes you along through the southern end of the park with views of the river’s edge and the surrounding landscape. • Damaging/removing plants, animals, or archaeological, geologic, or historic objects is a crime! • Leash (max 6ft.) and pick up after pets (domestic dogs and cats only!). Don’t leave pets unattended or take into park buildings. • Park hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., last entry at 4 p.m. Friday, Saturday, Sunday only. • No glass containers. • Smoking in the parking lots only. • No BB and pellet guns, bows, or slingshots allowed. • No hunting. • No amplified music. Exercise caution during seasonal flood stages. Carry adequate water per person and head back when the water is half gone. Wear appropriate footwear. Park only in designated areas. For your safety, stay on designated trails and avoid creating “social trails.” If hiking alone, tell someone where you are going and bring a park map or phone. No motorized vehicles on trails. Fires • Propane and charcoal grills and stoves are allowed, except for when local fire restrictions are in place. • Grills are not provided. • No wood fires are allowed. Wildlife Viewing There is abundant wildlife in the park with regular sightings of mule deer, javelina, coyotes, and bobcats, as well as a wide variety of birds. The park is part of the Verde River and hosts diverse bird species every season. Rattlesnakes are seen on occasion during the warmer months as well as tarantulas, lizards, and some non-venomous snakes.
