The Kanuti National Wildlife
Refuge sits atop the Arctic
Circle and is approximately 1.6
million acres in size. The refuge
is comprised of rich wetlands
consisting of a network of lakes,
streams, ponds, and marshes which
provides nesting habitat for a
number of bird species. A number
of different landbird and waterbird
surveys have been conducted. The
following 137 species of birds have
been documented on the refuge.
